What is involved


Your responsibilities as a medical volunteer in Cambodia will involve working in various hospital departments alongside the medical teams at the hospital, where you can observe the general practice and see how day-to-day life in the Cambodian medical environment works.

You’ll be working in a hospitals in Phnom Penh, which has many departments ranging from surgery, oncology, cardiology,  intensive care units, neonatal facilities and paediatric. You’ll be given a full briefing on arrival and will get a rotation is several units of the hospital.

This program is suitable for medical and nursing students, healthcare workers, medical professionals.  This would be a valuable learning journey while serving the society. And not just that, volunteers will also get to observe the Cambodian life closely and know more about the culture and lifestyle of the people. Some tasks that you can expect to be doing include

  • Shadow hospital professionals and assist them whenever needed.
  • Depending on your skills, you'll be assigned work like suturing wounds, giving vaccinations etc.
  • You can also assist/observe the Doctors during critical surgeries and operations.
  • You need to be actively involved in the daily procedures of the hospital, taking rounds of the wards, maintaining files, and doing routine patient checkups like measure Blood pressure, check fever and so on.

What your first week looks like


Arrival day

Your arrival weekend will be relaxed. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to your accommodation. Depending on your time of arrival, our team will meet you and give you a local orientation so you can get to know the area you are living in. The next day you will be given health and safety briefing and project training before we take you in for your program.

Weekdays

Your project coordinator or a member of the team will be taking you to the project and after introductions you can get started. Two meals breakfast, and dinner will be the accommodation and lunch is generally at the project site or outside. In the evenings most volunteers spend it either exploring local sights, relaxing at the accommodation or preparing for projects.

Our local team will suggest many activities for you to do! Your weekends will be free for you to explore Cambodia. We highly recommend you to utilise your time so you can get to see more of the country that you are visiting. We usually make recommendations based on past volunteer experiences. Its always better to book excursions in country with other volunteers.
