Our mental health and psychology volunteer program in Cambodia will allow you to learn about healthcare and psychology on an international level and in often challenging environments. Disabilities in children can prevent many from being able to fully participate in childhood activities, education, community activities and everyday family interactions. This unique program is designed to tackle these issues head on, providing psychological help for children and their families.

What is involved
During your time volunteering in Cambodia you will work under the supervision of experienced local professionals at a community centre with disabled and HIV positive children.
Some of these kids are extremely disabled, as the health care in Cambodia is not as good as in Western countries. Discrimination against those kids is a huge problem as well: Cambodia is a Buddhist country and people therefore believe in reincarnation. If a baby is born handicapped, the disability is often seen a sign for something that happened in a former life of the child. The centre provides appropriate living conditions to the children such as housing, food and
nursing. Daily medical care is available. Recreation activities are created to improve the living environment for the children. Play rooms are available. Educational facilities are available for children such as a kindergarten classroom from 4 to 6 years old and special education classrooms for disabled children. Children over six years are
sent to the primary school.
Volunteers will assist with:
Taking care of children ranging from infants to 6 years old
Feed children older than 6 years
Playing with the children
Taking care of disabled children, assisting with meal times and mobility
