What is involved
Our Medical students will be based in Galle ( in Southern Sri Lanka). We have strategic partnerships with a well renowned public hospitals in Sri Lanka. This hospital is also a teaching hospital with a 5000 bed capacity.
This medical programs in Sri Lanka is ideal for students looking for an opportunity to train alongside medical specialists and to spend time in hospitals with access to various clinical areas of your choice. Our programs in Sri Lanka are also suitable for medical students who are also looking to gain some experience in a developing country.
On average medical student will work for 5 hours a day depending on hospital and clinical area allocations given. At the hospital a coordinator will be assigned to you who will give you your clinical allocations and hospital timings(depending on doctors availability and patient cases). On your first day at the hospital you will get a general introduction and tour of the different units.
What you do at the placement is dependent on a host of factors including patient cases at the time, medical staff availability, clinical area chosen, timings and so on. Being a real world setting things in hospitals change rapidly, and we expect you to be flexible and embrace every learning opportunity that this medical placement offers you.

This program is based in Galle, Southern Sri Lanka
Volunteering Journeys Sri Lanka programs are based in Southern Sri Lanka. We are based in Galle, which is one of Sri Lanka’s most enchanting destinations, home to the famous 17th century Dutch Fort which houses many beautiful pieces of colonial architecture behind its walls, as well as an absorbing collection of quirky shops and restaurants. Galle is an expansive area, encompassing not only the famed Fort, but it is also in close proximity to some world class beaches (that are great for surfing and swimming), including some gems such as the sleepy and relaxed Tangallebeach, the lively Mirissa beach, the turtle lagoons of Wijeya beach and the surfing havens of Ahangama and Weligama, as well as stunning rural inland villages surrounded by rice paddy fields and cinnamon plantations.

5.Hospitality
You will be living in our volunteer house in Galle, a gorgeous Coastal beach town in Southern Sri Lanka. You will be sharing your room with 2- 4 other volunteers. All rooms come with attached bathrooms. Your accommodation will have an area to relax in and you will also have a dining area where you can have meals. Access to a kitchen is available where you can make your own tea or coffee and keep basic snacks. Our team will be around from 8 am to 5 pm on weekdays. If you need a private room or air-conditioned rooms we can arrange this at an additional cost.
Tasty home-cooked meals will be provided at the accommodation. Breakfast and Dinner are Sri Lankan dishes like a curry for lunch /dinner. Western meals are at local restaurants and cafes in the neighbourhood.
Transport to the volunteer projects will be in tuk tuks which is a great way to get around locally. Medical project volunteers can use ubers or a local bus. Your airport pick up and drop from the airport will be by car.
