Dentistry Internship in India

Our Dental Internship in India provides dentistry students with the invaluable clinical exposure they need to excel in their studies and advance their careers. More than just an internship, this program also gives participants the opportunity to build meaningful networks within the dental community in India while experiencing life in one of the country’s most vibrant destinations.

Based in Cochin, Kerala (South India), the dental electives are carefully structured to place students in a disciplined working environment under the guidance of highly experienced dentists. The clinics receive a steady flow of patients every day, allowing interns to observe a wide range of cases and procedures. Under expert supervision, students are introduced to different areas of dentistry such as oral rehabilitation, crowns and bridges, cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, dentofacial orthopedics, impacted tooth extractions, conservative dentistry, dental fillings, dental implants, orthodontics with clear braces, and even advanced treatments like laser surgery.

This program is an observership placement, which means participants will not be directly handling patients. Instead, the focus is on shadowing dentists and learning by observing clinical practice in a structured and professional setting. The experience is designed to give dental students a deeper understanding of treatments, patient management, and the functioning of a busy dental clinic in India.

With Kerala’s reputation as one of India’s most progressive states and Cochin’s welcoming atmosphere, this program offers the perfect balance of professional learning and cultural immersion. Whether you are looking to complete a dental elective abroad, strengthen your knowledge base, or gain exposure to diverse dental cases, this internship will provide valuable skills and insights to support your future career in dentistry.

What is involved?

Our Dental Internship Program in India is conducted at a private dental clinic in Cochin, Kerala, and is supervised by a highly experienced team of dentists. This program is ideally suited for dentistry students who already have some understanding of dental terminology and are eager to gain international exposure. Under the direct mentorship of the clinic’s lead dentist and his team, students will observe both general and cosmetic dental practices, gaining valuable insights into how dentistry is practiced in India.

To ensure quality learning, we place no more than two to four students in the clinic at any given time. This smaller group size allows the supervising dentist and staff to dedicate time to teaching, discussing cases, and answering questions in detail. While the internship is primarily observation-based, students are exposed to a wide variety of cases and clinical procedures. For those staying longer, there may also be opportunities to conduct dental workshops in local schools or community programs with women, helping spread awareness about oral health.

Participants can expect to work between five and seven hours a day, Monday to Friday, with specific timings provided by our program coordinators upon arrival. We recommend joining the placement for a minimum of four weeks to gain meaningful exposure across multiple areas of practice.

Weekends are free, giving you the opportunity to relax or travel around Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country.” From the tranquil backwaters and tropical beaches to tea plantations and wildlife reserves, there is plenty to explore locally. For those wishing to travel further afield, our team in India is happy to assist with organizing weekend trips to other destinations across the country.
