Volunteer English Teaching In Nepal

Join our Teaching English Volunteer Program in Nepal and help empower young learners through the gift of language and education. Based in the vibrant, spiritual capital city of Kathmandu, this program offers you the chance to make a lasting difference while immersing yourself in one of the world’s most fascinating cultures.

Nepal is known for its breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and warm, welcoming people, but access to quality education remains a challenge for many communities. In underfunded schools across the city and rural outskirts, teachers often work with limited resources and overcrowded classrooms. By volunteering to teach English in Nepal, you’ll help bridge this educational gap — improving literacy, communication skills, and future career prospects for local children.

Why Teach in Nepal?

Education is one of the most powerful tools to break the cycle of poverty, and in Nepal, there is a growing demand for English-speaking teachers to help prepare students for future opportunities in tourism, international business, and higher education. Many Nepali children are eager to learn but lack exposure to fluent English speakers and modern teaching methods.

As part of our long-term literacy and education development initiative, your teaching efforts directly contribute to improving classroom standards, introducing interactive teaching methods, and inspiring a new generation of learners.

Why Choose Volunteering Journeys

  • Long-term, sustainable partnerships with local Nepali schools

  • Structured orientation and ongoing in-country support

  • Safe, welcoming accommodation in central Kathmandu

  • Authentic cultural immersion — live like a local, not a tourist

  • Opportunities to travel and explore Nepal’s majestic natural beauty

This program is ideal for:

  • Gap year travelers and university students

  • Career breakers looking for meaningful travel

  • Qualified or trainee teachers seeking classroom experience abroad

  • Families with older children interested in cultural exchange

No prior teaching experience is required, but volunteers with TEFL certification or teaching backgrounds will be especially valuable. The most important qualities are enthusiasm, patience, and a willingness to connect.

What is involved

Your daily work as a volunteer teacher in Nepal will include:

  • Teaching English: Conduct lessons in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension to students aged 6–13 years old.

  • Supporting School Activities: Help organize art, music, and sports sessions or assist with after-school clubs.

  • Interactive Learning: Use games, songs, storytelling, and conversation practice to make learning fun and engaging.

  • Curriculum Support: Work alongside local teachers to enhance lesson delivery and introduce creative, student-centered methods.

  • Personal Development: Encourage children to express themselves confidently and develop key life skills like teamwork, discipline, and curiosity.

Classrooms in Nepal are often basic — equipped with simple desks and a blackboard — so your creativity, enthusiasm, and adaptability will make a real difference. Volunteers are encouraged to bring fresh ideas, teaching materials, and a sense of fun to their lessons.

Typical Day

  • 7:00 AM – Breakfast and prepare for your day

  • 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM – Teach morning English classes at your assigned school
