Why Volunteer in Costa Rica: Nature, Culture & Impact
Costa Rica offers more than its world-famous beaches and lush rainforests — it is a global hub for sustainable travel and conservation. Over 24% of its land is designated as parks and protected areas, making it one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet. Volunteering abroad in Costa Rica lets you immerse yourself in “Pura Vida” lifestyle, experience rich flora and fauna, and firsthand contribute to environmental protection, social development, and education.
Our Costa Rica volunteer programs give you a mix of urban cultural access and proximity to coastal or rural conservation areas. You’ll get to live among friendly locals, sample delicious Costa Rican cuisine, and engage in meaningful volunteer work — not just tourism.
You’ll stay in comfortable, locally-run guesthouses or volunteer lodgings. Most project sites are reachable by short travel from base locations. Some programs may require travel to rural or coastal sites, so prepare for local transport that may include boats or off-road journeys. Prepare for a tropical climate, occasional heavy rains, and variable amenities (especially in more remote conservation zones).

By joining one of our Costa Rica volunteer programs, you’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact while enjoying an unforgettable cultural adventure.
