Your midwifery internship placement will be at a public or private hospital, maternity clinic, or community health centre in Phnom Penh. You’ll work closely with the local maternity team, observing and supporting their work in prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care.
While this is primarily an observation-based internship, you’ll have the chance to engage actively in non-clinical and community-based learning as your confidence grows.
Typical learning opportunities include:
Observing antenatal check-ups, fetal monitoring, and patient counseling sessions.
Assisting staff in maternity and neonatal wards, learning about delivery preparation and postnatal care.
Understanding family planning, maternal nutrition, and health education in Cambodia’s cultural context.
Learning how to identify and manage common complications in pregnancy and childbirth under supervision.
Typical Daily Schedule
Your internship will generally run Monday to Friday, with weekends free for exploration and rest. A typical day looks like this:
| Time | Activity |
|---|---|
| 7:00 – 8:00 AM | Breakfast at your accommodation and travel to your placement site |
| 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM | Observe and assist at maternity or health clinic – antenatal care, deliveries (if available), and patient support |
| 12:30 – 2:00 PM | Lunch break, usually at a nearby café or hospital canteen |
| 2:00 – 4:00 PM | Continue observation, assist with postnatal education |
| After 4:00 PM | Free time to relax, study, or explore Phnom Penh’s markets and riverside |
| Weekends | Optional travel to Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, or the beaches of Sihanoukville |
