As part of our Special Needs and Disabled Care Volunteer Program in Cambodia, you’ll be working in community-based centres and special schools that provide education, therapy, and care for children living with developmental or physical disabilities.
These centres are often underfunded and understaffed, meaning your support as a volunteer makes a real difference. Most children you’ll work with have conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, or hearing and speech impairments. Many come from low-income families who cannot afford private therapy or specialized education.
You’ll work closely with local teachers, therapists, and caregivers who are passionate about providing the best possible care and learning opportunities. Your role is to assist them in day-to-day activities, offering hands-on help and emotional support.
Your tasks may include:
Assisting teachers with lessons and creative learning activities such as arts, crafts, music, and sensory play.
Helping children with motor skill exercises, therapy sessions, or basic physiotherapy (under supervision).
Providing one-on-one care for children who need extra attention or mobility assistance.
Organizing fun activities that build confidence, coordination, and communication.
Helping with feeding, hygiene, and daily routines where needed.
Supporting community awareness efforts about disability inclusion and rights.
This program is ideal for those studying or working in education, psychology, occupational therapy, nursing, or social work, as well as anyone who wants to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of others.
Your time and compassion bring not only practical help but also love, patience, and acceptance — qualities that are invaluable to the children and their families.
