Cambodia’s story is one of resilience and renewal. Despite its turbulent past, the country’s people remain some of the most welcoming and determined in Asia. Yet, widespread poverty and social inequality mean that grassroots NGOs play a crucial role in community progress.
Your International Development & Human Rights Internship in Cambodia will place you within one of our trusted local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in or around Phnom Penh. These organizations work tirelessly to improve living conditions, promote equality, and advocate for the rights of marginalized people — particularly women and children affected by poverty, abuse, or exploitation.
While every placement is different, interns can expect to be involved in a variety of meaningful and educational activities that provide real insight into the development sector.
Work directly with human rights and development organizations addressing women’s and children’s welfare.
Support education and rehabilitation programs for vulnerable populations.
Learn how international aid and local initiatives collaborate to create long-term impact.
Develop essential soft skills — leadership, empathy, and cross-cultural communication — that will set you apart in any career.
Your internship will be tailored to your background and interests, but typical areas of involvement include:
Women’s Empowerment: Supporting training initiatives and vocational projects that help women gain independence, confidence, and economic opportunities.
Child Protection & Education: Assisting NGOs that provide safe spaces, informal education, and health awareness programs for vulnerable children.
Human Rights Advocacy: Contributing to awareness campaigns on topics such as gender equality, domestic violence, or community health.
Community Development Projects: Helping local teams implement projects focused on sustainable livelihoods, housing, or social inclusion.
NGO Support Work: Conducting research, assisting with proposal writing, social media outreach, documentation, or reporting for donor updates.
