What to Do if Your A-Level Results Make You Rethink Your University Plans
If your A-level results have changed your university plans, you still have several realistic options. UCAS Clearing for 2026 entry remains open until 19 October 2026, although course availability changes continuously and competitive places can fill quickly.
On 13 August 2026, UCAS reported that 446,690 applicants of all ages and domiciles had already been accepted into higher education. That included a record 262,820 UK 18-year-olds.
The important thing is to compare your options rather than committing to a course simply because it is available.

Consider the financial commitment
For a standard full-time undergraduate course at an approved fee-cap provider in England, the maximum tuition fee for 2026/27 is £9,790. The maximum is scheduled to rise to £10,050 in 2027/28. Eligible students can generally apply for tuition-fee loans, while maintenance support depends on individual circumstances.
